SPLIT-SCREEN COVERS
DREAM THEATER COVER | INTERNATIONAL | COLLABORATIVE
Founded by Thiago Campos in 2009, VRA! is a long-running Dream Theater tribute project known for its high-level split-screen video covers and live performances. It began with a short instrumental snippet of "A Nightmare to Remember," recorded before the official album release, which gained traction online and laid the foundation for the project.
What started as a way for Thiago and friends to jam remotely soon became one of the most respected progressive metal tribute projects on the internet. The first full cover, "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream," featured a guest vocalist from Venezuela and was followed by the iconic "Metropolis Pt. 1" in 2009, which went viral and remains the most viewed VRA video to date.
Over the years, VRA released more than 10 high-quality split-screen videos, including fan-favorites like "As I Am," "Constant Motion," "Fatal Tragedy," and "The Gift of Music" — the latter featuring an 11-member virtual choir. The project has featured over 25 musicians from 9+ countries, including regular collaborators like Felipe Campos (bass), Paulinho (drums), Rod Calcagno (vocals), Junghwan Kim (keys), and Will Shaw (vocals).
From 2012 to 2017, VRA also performed live tribute shows in Brazil. Keyboardist Junghwan Kim flew in from South Korea for every performance, and vocalist Rod Calcagno joined for several shows alongside the Brasilia-based live formation.
After a hiatus, the project returned in 2021 with a powerful rendition of "Barstool Warrior" and followed up in 2024 with "Night Terror." Now with a dedicated site at dreamtheatercover.com, the project continues to celebrate the music of Dream Theater with passion, precision, and global collaboration.
